Three Period Recitation promotes the virtue of filial piety and respect for the dead and consists of chanting scriptures, reciting Buddha name, repenting, making vows, singing praises, and dedicating merit and virtue to all. Participants chant Buddha name with a pure heart and mind and vow to be reborn in the Western Pure Land in this lifetime and pray to the Buddha with his compassionate heart and power to persuade the soul of all generation of ancestors to be reborn in the Pure Land together and forever leaving the vast sea of karma and the suffering of the six realms of reincarnation.
